HTTPS Websites: Why Do They Matter in 2019 and Beyond?

First off, you might be asking yourself, “What in the world is HTTPS, anyways?” HTTPS is an acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. Essentially HTTPS websites (unlike HTTP websites) are encrypted, so theoretically, the information shared on the HTTPS website is secure and safe for consumers. Due to security issues and flaws on the Internet, most reputable companies are switching from standard HTTP to HTTPS for security purposes.

Here are some more specific reasons why HTTPS websites matter:

1. Google tends to treat websites with HTTPS with greater respect and gives those secure websites better search engine rankings than regular, “unsecured” HTTP websites. With better SEO rankings, you can bet you’ll receive more leads and sales. That by itself should be enough to convince most business owners to switch to HTTPS.

2. Security-conscious customers will see the HTTPS in their web browser when visiting your site and will feel more comfortable communicating with you online.

3. More people will buy from your secure HTTPS website vs. an unsecured HTTP website. When entering credit card/personal information on a website, many customers look for the HTTPS label in their browser to ensure that the website is secure and safe.

If you have an existing website that is running unsecured HTTP and you want to upgrade your website, along with its security (to HTTPS), we can help you revamp your website design. Or if you’re just starting out, and you need a website for your business, rest assured that all of our new websites are secured with HTTPS.
